DST is screwed up

I noticed yesterday ( Friday ) Nov 2, that my vcr's time has already been changed an hour back. I don't know by what method it did this. ..unless, Oct 31st or Nov 1 was the old date of change. If that was the cause, how does one get it to change to the new date. They keep screwing up the dates and the machines are not geared to change with them. It would be interesting to notice if the time has changed again after tonight's official change for tomorrow.

Do you have it configured to set the time from an XDS signal
broadcast by a local station? If so, you may want to go in and
set it manually instead of automatically.

My vcr ( RCA ) setup gives me the options by asking if I do have DST in my area I say yes and it tells me that XDS was not found. When I choose "Automatic" i get the same response. When I choose yes to the DST question, it asks me if my DST runs from April to October...I say yes... Apparently with that only choice I seem to have, it did not pick Nov 3rd, but October 28, the previous Sunday.

What is it with all this horrible double-spacing coming from
Google Groups these days? I'm about to filter out all GG postings,
as I know some other people did long ago.

Please, folks, at least trim out the unneeded quotage so that
your comment or question appears after a reasonable number
of lines.

Then apparently, whether you originally set the time manually or
via XDS, your VCR has a built-in DST program that--not surprisingly,
considering how old most VCRs are by now--was created back when we
still stopped DST in October.

You're going to have to take all the clock-setting off automatic
and reset it yourself twice a year.

FYI, my Magnavox 513 HDD/DVD has the capability of finding a time
signal, but I set the clock manually. However, it offers two options
for automatically switching on and off DST: Mar-Nov and Apr-Oct. So
I do allow it to make the time change automatically. If you get a
newer device, it will probably either use Mar-Nov or offer you the
same options.

I have noticed the phenomena myself and attribute it to the change when
daylight savings time was implemented - I recall it is only recently
that implementing DST was changed to date in November when historically
it was in date in October. At least that is the way for an American
like myself.

Depending how sophisticated your VCR is, you may have an option to
disable DST, like I have, since it is very unlikely that we will revert
to the old date for DST.

Usenet poster "Patty Winter" brought up the matter of verifying the XDS
protocol used to synchronize the VCR time - does that even exist
anymore? I figured that went the way of NTSC when Americans switched to
digital television in 2009.

No need to put my name in quotation marks. It isn't a pseudonym.

Yes. Hmmm, it's possible they don't still call it XDS on a digital
signal, though; not positive about that.

Nope. Although a VCR probably can't search digital channels
for the signal, and cable companies don't always pass it.
However, it sounds like it's been working for the OP until
today, so apparently s/he is still getting a time signal.
