Well I have two of these units that I have owned for over 10 years now.
They make an excellent duo when doing auto-assembly editing.
Both models were purchased out of mail order in 1992.
Just lately however, one of the machines dropped hi-fi audio out of the left
channel.
So I called 2 technicians in my area to ask about repair costs...and the one
outfit said this machine was professional and should be taken to a
commercial shop for repairs. The other outfit said the unit is a consumer
model and should be taken to a consumer shop for repairs. For those of you
not familiar with this VCR, it was absolutely chaulked full of features,
even with VOS editing (Video On Sound) which gave it the ability to record
video over an existing hi-fi sound track.
Either way, I'm at a loss as to who is competent enough to do the work.
Do you think this machine should be serviced by consumer or commercial
technicians?

The ones to answer you question would be your local consumer repair shops.
Most modern shops are equipped to do these type repairs. If you go to a
commercial shop I'm sure the repair costs would be greater.

This one is a (the top of the bill) Consumer deck.
All professional equipment from JVC starts with BR-S....

I think your VCR needs a new head.

Good luck

®inoceros, this one would definitely be the "poor professional's" deck.
It used to retail for $2500.00 US back in 1990....comparable in price to
Sony's ED-Beta EDV-9500 (which I also have 2 of).
