AG-1980P - problem changing mode to CATV?

I just got a recently-serviced Panasonic AG-1980P, and after hooking it
up to my system, I can't seem to get the tuning mode selector to work in
order to change the tuning mode from TV to CATV.

The manual details the following steps:

1. Press PRESET/FINE/NORMAL.

2. The tuning mode can be changed by pressing ANT SELECT.

3. Press PRESET/FINE/NORMAL twice to select the VCR normal operation
mode.

I'm not getting any visible response, either on-screen or on the front
panel of the deck, when I press PRESET/FINE/NORMAL or ANT SELECT.

Coax from CATV is hooked up to the VHF/UHF IN connector on the back
panel, and coax going out to the TV is hooked up to the VHF/UHF OUT
connector. S-VIDEO OUT and AUDIO OUT connectors are connected to an S-
Video switch, which is in turn connected to the TV's single S-Video in.
I don't have a CATV converter box as it's not required for the channels
I have (analog cable, extended tier).

The tuner is able to tune channels 2-16, but none of the higher
channels. Tape playback works OK. After some extensive googling, I found
one post on rec.video.professional from 1997 from someone having the
same problem with a brand-new AG-1980:

but no answers. Also found another thread on rec.video from someone with
an AG-1970, and a recommendation to use the MENU button on the remote to
change the tuning mode:

Unfortunately, the MENU button on my remote, just like the
PRESET/FINE/NORMAL and ANT SELECT buttons on the front panel, doesn't
result in any on-screen display (there is an OSD button on the remote
which also doesn't seem to do anything). The other functions on the
remote seem to work just fine. Not sure if this is the original remote
that came with the deck or not - the model number on it is VEQ1642,

So, for any AG-1980 experts out there, what am I missing?

Not a lot of activity here, so I'll follow up to my own post in case
anyone else runs into the same problem.

Turned out to be one of those simple solutions that's so obvious it's
easy to overlook: the coax in and out cables were slightly loose.
Tightened everything down again, and bingo - the tuning mode selection
was changeable just as detailed in the manual, and all the CATV channels
were available.
