Cable STB RF out -> VCR RF in.
Digital converter box (CECB) composite out -> VCR composite (AV1) in.
Digital converter box (CECB) RF out -> TV RF in.
VCR composite output -> TV composite in. <<<

With this setup, I am not able to time record after testing it out.
For cable time recording, I set the vcr to 03, and all I got for an
hour recording was a 'blizzard"...( lots of snow only ). For my OTA,
the same thing. Why is it I can watch and record both of them 'live',
( meaning being there and watching what I am recording ) but not on a
timer? There is nothing wrong with the vcr, maybe the menu setup?

What input were you trying to record? What channel or input did you
program it to record? Why did you set the VCR to channel 3?

I am able to view and record on Video 1 and for cable on my TV 03. In
vcr menu for time recording, it asks you for the channel that I
want..so for cable on have to leave it on 03 and make sure that i have
the channel set that I want. On the Video 1 setup, I choose the
channel...its worked that way for me in the past ...pre converter box
installation.

I am having a very hard time comprehending what you are trying to say. Please
give direct answers to the questions I ask, and not add a bunch of other
stuff. OK? [Reminds me of an old movie skit...;) ]

Now, off what are you attempting to record, cable box or antenna (via CECB) ?
What parameters are you programming into your VCR (channel, etc.) ?

HI, sorry..if I don't answer the way you like ...maybe its because I
don't understand some of the requests that your asking...I don't know
how to make it any plainer...ie..i do not know what CECB acronym
stands for... I'll take one last shot if your interested...I have set
my system up as you suggested a couple of days ago. When I try to do a
timer recording..I obviously have to go to the vcr programming menu.
It asks me what channel that I want to record...as I have done in the
pre converter days, and wanted to record cable, I had to add channel
03, and made sure that the cable channel I wanted, was left on. Now,
with the OTA, I use to put the actual channel number in the vcr
programming and it would go straight to that channel and record at the
time I set...thats it...SO,,,I assumed with your setup, I could do the
same thing...but all I got for both modes was a lot of snow.

I have been following your problem and have a simple thing you may need
to check on. I have a digital converter box and that box also has to be
set for the program to be taped. So, the converter box has to be
programed for the show (time and channel)and the VCR also has to be
programed for the same time (and ch. 3 or 4, whichever is your default).
Other than that, I have nothing to add.

CECB = Coupon Eligible Converter Box (digital to analog OTA converter.)

As far as recording goes....

To record from CECB (wired as above):

* Tune CECB to desired channel.
* Program VCR to record at given time on AUX/VIDEO/AV1 (whatever your
VCR calls it.

To record from cable STB (wired as above):

* Tune cable STB to desired channel.
* Program VCR to record at given time on CHANNEL 3 (or 4, whatever your
STB puts out.)

OK, I am able to record from the converter box only, that was not my
dilemma. I did an automatic channel search on my vcr for both...cable
and antenna ( of course at different times ) in this setup, and all I
am able to receive are Video 1 ( where my converter box is ) and
channel 03. Now, here is the rub...with my vcr remote when I press
other channels ..ie...02 ( cbs ) 04 ( nbc ) and etc...I get only the
blue screen on my TV..and .just those 2 inputs ( video 1 ) and
03....BTW, for some strange reason, on the 03 input, all I am able to
get is the Fox channel...so my question is,....in this particular
hookup that you gave me, its preventing me from getting ALL my
channels on the VCR..If I can get all my channels from the vcr, than I
may be able to record them. As far as my cable channels, I see them
only on their respective channels, but it does not appear on those
inputs of Video 1 or 03.

Yup. When you are trying to tune OTA channels, tune your VCR to "Video 1"
and PUT YOUR VCR REMOTE DOWN. Tune the OTA channels with your CECB remote.
When you are trying to tune cable channels, tune your VCR to channel 3
and PUT YOUR CABLE BOX REMOTE DOWN. Tune cable channels with your cable

Same for recording. If recording from CECB, program the VCR to record from
"Video 1" and tune the CECB to the desired channel. If recording from the

to the desired channel.

I think Anthona did not realize that the VCR tuner is totally useless
for tuning anything other than channel 3 when the converter box is
connected to it which has the tuner controlling the channel selection.
I have a similar 2 feed set up...1)analog cable signal into a VCR then
into another VCR then into my stereo then into the TV video plugs, also
2)a digital feed into my cable box then into the TV cable plug. I have
to remember if the TV set is on "TV" (set to ch. 3)or "Video" for the
feed I'm viewing. Also the second VCR has to be on ch.3 for me to view
the first VCR tape.

and PUT YOUR CABLE BOX REMOTE DOWN. Tune cable channels with your cable
box remote.
OK, the above is agreed and done. With 4 remotes in one hand, it does
get confusing.

Same for recording. If recording from CECB, program the VCR to record from
"Video 1" and tune the CECB to the desired channel. If recording from the
cable box, program the VCR to record from channel 3 and tune the cable box
to the desired channel.
Here is where I have a problem, although i am able to see 03 and/or
Video1 with my vcr remote.AND THE REACTION THAT i SEE ON THE
SCREEN...I DO NOT SEE VIDEO 1 WHEN i AM TRYING TO SETUP A TIME
RECORDING IN PROGRAMING. i AM ABLE TO SEE 03 ONLY...NO VIDEO 1. THE
QUESTION IS HOW DO I GET THE VCR IN PROGRAMING TO SHOW ME "VIDEO 1''?
I assume that the vcr when it does its automatic channel search,
depends on how i have it connected to various peripherals. Am I
correct? I know it can be confusing without seeing what one is talking
about, or how its explained..let me try... As we all know when it
comes to recording from a vcr...it asks you what channel do you want,
what is your input, cable or antenna and the times of starting, date
and etc. As far as I know, no vcr allows an input such as video 1, 2
or Front to be entered in such a setup.of programing..only channel
numbers...02,03 and etc. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I don't understand what you mean by "...I DO NOT SEE VIDEO 1 WHEN i AM
TRYING TO SETUP A TIME RECORDING IN PROGRAMING. i AM ABLE TO SEE 03 ONLY...
NO VIDEO 1." If you mean you can't see Video 1 on your monitor, that's
irrelevant. If you mean that your VCR won't let you enter Video 1 as the
source you wish to record, that's VCR specific. Consult your manual.
*Some* older VCRs required "channel 99" be entered to program for Video 1
(or "external" or "aux", whatever your VCR calls it. On my VCR, I can
choose channel 1-125, external L1, or external L2. What make/model is your
VCR? What does its manual say?

Setting your VCR's recording timer has nothing to do with its automatic
channel search.

The programming should give you the choice of any of your channels (normally
1-125) or any external input (External 1, Aux 1, Line 1, Video 1, etc.)

Again:

To record from your CECB, program VCR for Aux (or External or Line, etc.) and
tune your CECB to the desired channel.

To record from your cable STB, program your VCR for channel 3 and tune your
cable STB to the desired channel.
