Why are HDTVs incompatible with VCRs? I use THREE VCRs with my Sony
Bravia HDTV on a semi-daily basis. Quite compatible.

Hi, I put the question to a hdtv group and the answers I received ( best
as I could understand them ) were that the hdtv sets distorted the
picture badly . Do you connect the vcrs to the hdtvs with a coaxial
cable or the red white and yellow plugs ( I think the vcrs have them up
front ) ? thanks.

I have two SVHS VCRs hooked up to my Sony Bravia HDTV with s-video and/or
composite ("the red white and yellow plugs") with no distortion whatsoever,
but using the coaxial output would add no "distortion" either.

I would be interested in reading exactly what the "hdtv group" had to say.

The only distortion problem - and this applies to any 4:3 format video viewed
on a 16:9 screen, not just from VCRs - would be if the "stretch" function
were used to "stretch" the 4:3 video out to 16:9.

*Where* did you read this nonsense?

The only reason I'm interested in Hi-def tv at all at this time is that
I have a one use only high value coupon from ebay/paypal and a high def
set may be the only way to get fair value from the coupon. The group
that I've visited is alt.tv.tech.hdtv

Huh? How many WebTV "aliases" do you have?

I read all of the threads you started on alt.tv.tech.hdtv. Why the use of
so many different names/email addresses?

So one poster there said he had some difficulties with one VCR and one HDTV.
I tend to think that was the exception. First time I've heard such nonsense.

The only reason the picture would appear to look bad is it follows the GIGO
rule(Garbage In /Garbage Out). Basically if you are starting with a very low
resolution source like VHS, you cant expect much to begin with. But that being
said, most HDTV's have decent combfilters and tech in them that help make old
analog sources look much nicer IMHO that on an old TV.

A) Only one actually had problems. I read the threads. Please quote
what the others said. Maybe in yet another thread you started with
yet another "alias" ??
B) I *can* have eight addresses. But *why* do you post to the same group
using multiple addresses? *THAT* is the question.

several wrote there would be problems, not many recent threads in that
group on this problem. As the man said , check it out. I have six
adresses due to the many thousands of saved e mails and pages I have,
so...I usually post to a group from whatever user I'm on at the
time...not hard to figure out

Simple solution: Ask TV salesperson to play a VCR through TV in which you
have an interest. Problems are rare, if not non-existent.

As far as your multiple alias on same NG goes...GET A LIFE, dude. I've
seen you use multiple aliases within minutes of each other on the same
friggin' group. Geez...
