I have one a Mitsubishi HD-2000 digital D-VHS. They were dumped on the market
around March 2007 for about $90 or roughly 10% of retail. Needless to say it
took just a couple of days and they were gone! The only D-VHS tape I ever saw
was the one included with the recorder.

HS-HD2000U. GREAT VCR! I picked one up for $110 delivered. As good as the
HS-U795, but does SD and HD digital, too. Love the LCD screen on the remote
for setting the program timers without the need to use a monitor.

D-VHS tapes are pricey (and unnecessary), but are still available at vendors
such as tapewarehouse.com. I mainly use it with S-VHS tapes.

As I recall I first heard about the sales on this newsgroup. I was reluctant to
purchase one, as I could not believe the price cut for a premium item. By the
time I received one and found out what it was, they were sold out. Shucks! The
D-VHS tapes are too pricey for me, anyhow I use standard tapes as I have several
operating VCRs, and not all are S-VHS capable. Besides, with these old eyes
everything looks to be about equal in quality regardless of the definition.

You are indeed lucky! If I could drive over there I would pick up a couple for
myself. What's a poundland?
