I have posted this question several times but have not received a clear
answer yet. I have sattelite with two tv's . One is on ch 3, other on ch 60.
Advice I have received says I must buy a vcr with tuner and set it on ch 3
and change tv now on ch 60 over to ch 3 in order to record. Why can't I
leave things on ch 60? If I change to ch 3 I lose pix on the tv.

ACK! I thought we had this settled.

If your satellite receiver has two RF outputs (channel 3 and channel 60),
your VCRs should be tuned to channel 3 and channel 60 respectively. Each
VCR should be tuned to whatever frequency (channel 3 or channel 60) is
going to its input. The output of both VCRs will be channel 3, so both
TVs will be tuned to channel 3.

Here...I'll draw a picture. Assuming your satellite receiver has one output
one channel 3 and another on channel 60:

Tuner 1 (ch. 3)-> VCR1 (tuned to channel 3) -> TV1 (tuned to channel 3)
Tuner 2 (ch. 60) -> VCR2 (tuned to channel 60) -> TV2 (tuned to channel 3)

Or you could just use the A/V inputs/outputs.

November 4th was a long time ago.

Tuner 2 (ch. 60) -> VCR2 (tuned to channel 60) -> TV2 (tuned to channel 3)
This is precisely my problem to which I haven't ever received a clear
response (ACK!). I tape record very infrequently but if I understand you
correctly my vcr on TV2 must be turned on all the time in order to output a
signal on CH3 if I just want to watch tv. What happens at the vcr output
when I turn it off? It doesn't appear reasonable that I must keep the vcr
turned on all the time even though I won't record for months. Do I assume
correctly that vcr's cannot ever output on CH60 but only on CH3 and so I
must I keep it turned on for it to do so? Or do I have to flip the tv back
to CH60 when vcr is off? That's all I want to know and then my confusion
will be settled and it's over. My problem is not to know which cable to
connect here or there but to understand what is happening when I do so.
Thanks for your patience, UCLAN. Really appreciated :-)

If the VCR is OFF, it merely passes the input signal to the output. So,
if Satellite Tuner #2 has a channel 60 output and VCR2 is OFF, simply
watch by turning your TV to channel 60.

VCR2 ON : Tune TV to channel 3.
VCR2 OFF: Tune TV to channel 60.

Simply tune TV to channel 60. Such a difficult task.
