I have a VHS tape that I wanted to put on DVD. I used my nieces DVD/VCR
combo machine to copy the VHS to DVD. After it was done, we played the
DVD and it worked great. Now however, at home, it will not load on my
Toshiba (newer) DVD player. Any ideas on this? TIA.

What format was it recorded in? DVD-R? DVD-RW? DVD+R? DVD+RW? DVD-RAM?
Does the Toshiba play that format?

It was copied to a DVD-R. The Toshiba says it may or may not play
certain formsts. I know lots about computers but a basket case when it
comes to TV and Video stuff. I would like to get my own VCR/DVD Recorder
but don't know what to look for or what brands are good in the lower
price range.

**Did you remember to finalize the DVD-R? It won't play in any other
DVD player until you do so.

I probably didn't. It is a learning process for me. I guess the best
thing is to try copying it again and hopefully more success this time.

Thanks.

You may not need to recopy, put same DVD back in same machine you made
it on, get out manual, and see if it will let you finalize. Mine did
when I was learning and I thought I'd wasted all the time copying.

**Agreed. Just put the disc back into the recorder and check the
manual for finalizing. It'll probably be in disc settings or something
like that.

You forgot to "finalize" the disk.

When you finished the recording to the DVD from VHS did you finalize the
recording (can you on your sisters machine). On my Zenith it gives me the
choice to finalize the DVD which makes the DVD generic to play on most
machines
