Sony SLV-620HF VCR problem

The unit works but it has and intermittent puzzle. For instance, The tape will
install but not play or it will play but it will not eject. IF I unplug the AC
cord and plug it back in it will work. It is in good condition for its age and I
can not see anything obvious. Any suggestions? TIA

Mode switch

I was afraid of that! Now to figure out how to get at it to replace it but first
I'll have to find a replacement part. Thank you for the help.
