Post by KorvetteI've been told in the past that if I want my vcr's change time to dst,
I should set it up in my menu, as such, it would change automatically
by tuning in on a PBS station. Well, here in NYC, we have a lot of pbs
stations and none of the 3 vcr's changed...does it take some time?
Depends on the VCR model. One of my VCRs uses programming from an internal chip
to change the dates (the old dates - so now I reset the clock manually). The
other VCR is supposed to find a time synch signal sent by many PBS stations in
their over-the-air signal (never have had cable, satellite, etc., so I don't
know if the synch signal successfully makes it through compression etc.) Worked
perfectly in past years for me. This year I was using a digital-analog TV
converter box exclusively since before the time change and even though the
output of the converter goes to the VCR antenna input, the time never
automatically changed on that VCR.
If your VCR doesn't have built-in digital tuners, your concern may all be moot
after June 12th. I have no idea if the PBS time synch signals are being
digitized to keep up with the new transmission standards. I guess many folks
now pay for TIVO subscriptions and I understand that TIVOs set their time via a
built in telephone modem. Isn't it swell how almost every time we are the
unsolicited recipients of "new and improved" whatever it is, Luddites like us
end up with inconveniences and expenses we never dreamed we'd have!
